Release date:2022-07-03          Reading volume:13605
Moon Bay The Yalu River Broken Bridge spanning the Yalu River is one of Dandong's iconic attractions. It is next to the Yalu River Bridge (China-DPRK Friendship Bridge), which is a historical witness to the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. Walking on the bridge, looking at the numerous bullet marks left on the bridge body and the bridge steel frame, I can feel the sound of guns and fighter planes cutting through the sky as if in my ears. Standing on the bridge, you can also enjoy the scenery of China and North Korea.

The Yalu River Broken Bridge is the first bridge among the many bridges on the Yalu River. It was built in 1911 by the Railway Bureau of the Japanese Governor's Office, a colonial agency at that time. The bridge is 944.2 meters long. The fourth hole from the middle is the opening and closing beam. With the fourth pier as the axis, it can be rotated 90 degrees to facilitate the navigation of passing ships. From November 1950 to February 1951, the US planes invading North Korea bombed the bridge indiscriminately many times, making the bridge a waste bridge.

The four-hole bridge left by the Chinese side has been preserved to this day, and it is customarily called the "broken bridge". On the broken bridge, there are two viewing platforms for the rotation of the original bridge and one viewing platform for the explosion, one gun tower, and 30 exhibition panels for the history of the broken bridge. The bridge body is painted in light blue, which means not forgetting colonial rule and war of aggression, praying for and maintaining world peace. Thousands of bullet marks on the broken bridge, which are still left, have become witnesses to resist US aggression and aid Korea.
