Dandong Minsu, Dalu Island is located in the north part of the Yellow Sea 19 nautical miles southeast of Dagu Mountain, Donggang City, Dandong, bordering the DPRK and ROK in the west sea, covering an area of 6.6 square kilometers. The main peak is 189.1 meters above sea level, and it is the largest island in the north end of China's territorial sea.

 

 

 

Dalu Island has a rich history. The 1894-1895 naval battle between China and Japan took place in waters south of Dalu Island. There also stands a British nautical lighthouse built in 1923, a monument to the shame of an unequal treaty.

 

 

 

Since the reform and opening up, Dalu Island, while accelerating the economic construction, has organically combined the development of tourism and the strengthening of national defense education, carefully planned, organized and implemented a series of projects. These are integrated with the waterfront road, cultural square, West Beach Square, Sea water park, Sea Pavilion, flowerbed corridor, Houkou Mountain Gate and other scenic spots successively built, forming the unique "name card" of Dalu Island, which receives more than 100,000 tourists every year. Since 1997, more than 1 million tourists have visited this island.

 

 

 

Over the years, Dalu Island has attached great importance to national defense education, made full use of national defense education resources, and carried out colorful national defense education activities. Every Tomb-sweeping Day, young students are organized to Deng Shichang tomb, the tomb of the First Day martyrs held a memorial ceremony, and take the oath. Many tourist groups also organize young people to carry out memorial activities to the ancient battlefield of the Sino-Japanese naval battle, to feel the storm and the heroic fight against foreign invasion. In 2007 alone, they helped tourism groups hold more than 300 bonfire parties, fireworks parties and singing parties with the theme of patriotism. They have also held large-scale activities to commemorate the "Martyrs of the First Sino-Japanese War", "Centenary of the Battle of the First Sino-Japanese War", "Crossing the Strait of the First Sino-Japanese War" and other activities. In 2007, they jointly established the "Love the People and Consolidate border Model Village" with the Dandong Frontier Detachment, which further expanded their influence.

 

 

 

Dalu Island was designated as "Patriotism Education Base for YOUNG People" by the National Working Committee for the Care of the Next Generation in 1996, "Liaoning National Defense Education Base" BY the Provincial National Defense Education Commission in January 2002, and "Liaoning Patriotism Education Demonstration Base" by the provincial government in April 2007, and "Liaoning Patriotism Education Demonstration Base" in 2005. At the same time, it has been named as "national AAA Scenic Spot", "National Civilized Village Construction Advanced Unit", "National Top Ten Small Health Village".
