The Dandong Memorial Hall was built in 1958, and Guo Moruo inscribed the name of the hall. Preparations for the re-expansion began in 1984. On October 24, 1990, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army's entry into the Korean War, Hong Xuezhi, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and former deputy commander of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, led a central delegation to Dandong to lay the foundation stone for the museum. The new building is composed of three main buildings: exhibition hall, panorama hall and memorial tower, which integrates the traditional style of the Chinese nation with modern architectural features. The total area of 180,000 square meters, the total construction area of 13,790 square meters. The layout of the exhibition hall is a three-story building in the shape of a product, with a construction area of 5,800 square meters and a height of 19.4 meters. There are five ethnic pavilions on the floor. The exhibition contents are divided into four major parts: War Hall against the US and Aid Korea, Movement Hall against the US and Aid Korea, Friendship Hall between the Chinese and Korean People, and Heroic and Model Martyrs Hall.

 

 

 

Panorama museum has panorama painting "Qingchon River bank siege and Annihilation battle". The picture takes the second battle of the War against the United States and Aid Korea as the background, and focuses on the Sansogri, Yongwon-ri, Songgubong and other blocking battles along the Cheongcheon River, vividly reflecting the heroic spirit of the volunteer army on the battlefield.

 

 

 

The 53-meter-high monument symbolizes the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953 and the great victory of the War against the United States and Aid to Korea. The open-air weapons display field displays the aircraft, artillery, tanks and other heavy weapons and equipment used by the Chinese army in the War of Resisting America and Aiding Korea, as well as the heavy weapons captured by the volunteers.

 

 

 

The reconstruction and expansion project of the museum includes the new exhibition hall, the repair and transformation of the panorama museum, the repair and transformation of the memorial tower, the repair and transformation of the former command post of the Chinese People's Volunteers Army, and the design of the national Defense Education park. Among them, the new exhibition hall is three floors high and covers an area of more than 230,000 square meters, nearly four times the area of the old one, which integrates publicity, education, academic research, display and other functions.

The museum displays more than 1,000 historical pictures and more than 1,000 cultural relics.

 

 

 

Special attention should be paid to the protection of cultural heritage during the reconstruction and expansion. For example, a panorama painting more than 130 meters long and 18 meters high hanging in the museum, as well as ground installations simulating war scenes, should be restored according to their original quality.
